Dream Hou$e presented a unique challenge, the whole show switches between the reality, a home makeover show, and a nebulous space where the two main characters, a pair of sisters, communicate.
For Reality, I tried to make the lighting as grounded as possible, and it wasn’t too hard in the small, cozy space that we were in. For the home makeover show (Love it or List it), everything was bright, but not colorful. Using bright lights on the sides and backs of the subjects, I tried to play up the un-realistic aspect of this makeover, giving the shows host a halo of light, as the show tries to present her as these sisters savior. For sister space, we move in to much darker visuals, where I tried to focus the lights on the sisters, and only the sisters. For fill light, I utilized dark blues and purples, as well as showing those on the walls, these lights only turned on while the characters were in sister space, hopefully creating a visual language for the audience to understand that whenever these blues show up, they are not in reality, or. the show.
